While many soldier modernisation programmes are at different stages of development and implementation, key themes and patterns can clearly be identified. Interoperability between soldier systems remains a key goal for the majority of SMP leaders and integrating existing and new components to legacy architecture is becoming more challenging as programme technology matures.
Night vision capabilities and new and innovative developments such as information fusion and sensor networking are all seeing increased focus as dismounted warfare becomes notably more complex. Power continues to challenge many soldier modernisation programmes and the need for a more intelligent and dynamic approach to power as well as developing interoperable battery sources continues to be a key area.
Balanced with the human factors, soldier modernisation leaders are tasked with developing a future soldier system that is truly interoperable with a multitude of existing military technology and architecture, making the Soldier Technology Global Conference 2008 a must attend event for all those working in the soldier modernisation space. |
