After obtaining his Ph.D., Dr. Soliman Demir worked in research at the United Nations in New York and in consultancy in both Boston (The Commonwealth Group for Financial Technologies, TCG) and Kuwait (KENOMAC) before joining Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA), where he spent 9 years as Senior Investment Advisor to the Managing Director.  He joined Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC) in September 1999 as Head of Economics and Strategy and Chief Economist.  Dr. Demir holds a Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh (US) and has two published books:  The Kuwait Fund and the Political Economy of Arab Regional Development (Praeger Publishers, USA) and Arab Development Funds in the Middle East (Pergamon Press, Oxford and New York).  Dr. Demir is a frequent contributor to regional and international economic forums and conferences.

Salah Al-Fulaij took over from George Nasra as chief executive officer (CEO) of NBK Capital, the investment banking unit of National Bank of Kuwait (NBK). Al-Fulaij was previously group general manager of investment services and treasury at NBK, and his appointment marked the consolidation of the subsidiary and brought investment services, including merchant banking and asset and wealth management, into the unit. NBK Capital is now expanding and planning to establish an office in Cairo to add to its offices in Kuwait, Dubai and Istanbul. Al-Fulaij continues to supervise the NBK’s treasury department, in addition to NBK’s private banking subsidiary in Switzerland and its London-based investment management joint venture with Morgan Stanley.

Imran Ahmed joined Mashreq as the Managing Director of the Asset Management division in January 2004. He is responsible for the establishment of Mashreq’s Asset Management business, including the Makaseb family of five mutual funds and the discretionary managed account business, with the launch of the Makaseb Emirates Equity Fund in February 2005. As Managing Director of Asset Management, Imran is responsible for the strategic growth and developments of Mashreq’s fiduciary investment management business. He is also a member of the Asset Allocation Committee which provides investment guidance for the portfolios under Mashreq’s management.

Mohammed Ali Yasin, Managing Director of SHUAA Securities, is a member of the select brokerage committees nominated by the Emirates Securities and Commodities Authority, Abu Dhabi Securities Market (ADSM) and the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) which help in drafting new laws and regulations and advise on new market developments. He has led Emirate Securities since 1998 to become the largest private brokerage firm in the UAE, and now a part of SHUAA Securities. During that time he grew the company from AED 1 million in capital to a phenomenal AED 120 million in equity and five offices.
