Key industry Drivers:
- EU Military Spend - The EU is currently acting as the driving force for the so called "comprehensive approach". The Global Monitoring of Environment 6 Security worth €1.6 billion is designed to integrate defence, civilian, national security and anti-terrorist GIS intelligence capabilities. This will achieve better results for all parties involved, and most importantly will keep the costs in tight control. It is especially relevant to the GIS intelligence community, as every European government is cutting costs, tightening budgets and reduces spend.
- Geospatial Intelligence (Geoint) Across Organisations - According to a latest study, geospatial information and intelligence is quickly becoming the operational basis of every part of a defence organisation. Soldiers in-theatre, generals in command and control, researchers and analysts in the HQ all need to look at the same map to make effective and joined up decisions. Every event happens in space and time, which means it needs to be put on a map to be recorded. This is what is driving the rapid adoption of GIS in all parts of the defence community.
- Human Terrain Analysis - Your colleagues in GIS capabilities in defence national security organisations have informed us that Human Terrain Analysis (HTA) is a very important part of their strategy. Geospatial intelligence is building HTA into every capability designed to fight wars, protect soldiers and fight terrorism globally. Most GIS professionals are currently implementing new HTA solutions, looking for data, analysing available sources and building their HTA capability.
- Geospatial Intelligence in C4ISR - For hundreds of years command and control has looked at maps to assess situations, make decisions and win wars. It is now, that GIS has become the core of every C4ISR operation and needs proper attention of the commanding generals. There will be several case study presentations from different European and North American nations, talking about their experience of implementing a truly integrated GIS strategy in their C4ISR system
Key 2011 Themes:
This year, the conference advisory board has decided to theme the conference into 6 key themes: - GIS Strategy – You will hear presentations from heads of Geo in different MoDs across the world. They will be focusing on the strategic role of geospatial intelligence in defence operations, giving real life examples of how GIS is vital to the success of any campaign.
- GIS Support In-Theatre – Officers who have just returned from Afghanistan and other key locations will be showing you how they used geo capability, what support it gave them and what results they achieved in-theatre. It is not just the commanding general who needs geospatial information, it is every single soldier on the ground!
- Geospatial Architecture – Most defence IT, systems and GIS software will soon be based on a map and fully integrated with all available geo capabilities. Given the importance of integrated networks, DGI is dedicating over 10 hours to case studies, presentations, debate, interoperability and integration of GIS capabilities into the overall architecture.
- Geospatial Intelligence in C4ISR – There will be several case study presentations from different European and North American nations, talking about their experience of implementing a truly integrated GIS strategy in their C4ISR system.
- Human Terrain Analysis – Most MODs are rapidly developing their HTA strategy, making it a key part of their GIS capability. DGI is dedicating an entire day of case study presentations, debates, panel discussions and new solutions to HTA.
- Geospatial Solutions and Technologies Expo – Designed to bring you not only the best solutions for your geospatial strategy, GIS software and remote sensing systems but to show you the latest new ideas, concepts and capabilities, which are currently being developed and tested in defense intelligence.
